In today’s economy, as we all know, money is tight, health care services are costly and staying healthy is definitely a challenge for everyone.

AARP believes health and financial security are rights, not privileges, for all members of society.  For over 50 years, health and financial security have been top issues for AARP and now those issues are even more critical than ever.

Many Michigan residents are now finding themselves in a situation where they need guidance on money management, assistance with filing taxes, someone to show them the public benefits that may be available to them, information about Medicare, driver safety tips or hands-on support to keep their budgets balanced every month.

That is why AARP is inviting Detroiters to the AARP Michigan “Detroit @50+ Information Fair” on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, 1144 Washington Blvd.
This event is free and designed for Detroiters who are 50 years of age and older.  Many of our members, and the public, have told us they want to know more about AARP and what we are doing in Michigan and local communities.  On Nov. 7, AARP staff and volunteers from across the state will be on had to share information about our programs and services and the important issues we are addressing on your behalf in Lansing.

Topics to be covered at the event include:

    •    Health – Medicare & You; Health Care Reform Update; Creating Healthy Lifestyles & Behaviors; Wise Use of Medication; and Tips for Caregivers.

    •    Financial Security – Protect Yourself from Identity Theft; Latest News on Social Security; and Saving and Investing for Retirement.

    •    Livable Communities – Driver Safety Tips; Home Modification; and Universal Design.

At the event, you will have access to free copies of AARP’s award-winning publications and mini-workshops on critical health and financial security topics.  You will also learn about volunteer opportunities in your community.

I encourage you to attend this great event and to bring along a friend to learn how to make the most of “Life @ 50+.”

Please call (866) 227-7448 for more information.

Jacqueline Morrison is the senior manager for state operations for AARP Michigan.
