Jerome Bettis and Others Celebrate 40 years of The Reggie McKenzie Foundation with Football Clinic
This summer marks the 40th anniversary of the Reggie McKenzie Foundation, which has served more than 50,000 of Detroit’s youth. The Foundation will host its annual clinic, free of charge, June 18- 20 for children ages 8-15 at the Reggie McKenzie Field in Highland Park. Jerome Bettis, NFL players, and others will serve at the clinic.
McKenzie has been influential in the careers of NFL stars including Thomas “Pepper” Johnson, Jerome Bettis, Gilbert Brown, Michael Westbrook, Bobby Abrams and Braylon Edwards. In honor of the organization’s achievements, a series of events will be held. Reggie McKenzie, a Highland Park native, was an All-American gridiron star at the University of Michigan in the late 1960s before becoming an All-Pro guard in the NFL. Bridging his love for sports, education and helping kids, McKenzie formed the eponymous foundation in the early 1970s to give back to the community that had given him so much as a youth.
McKenzie stated, “One the eve of the 40th anniversary I want anyone who has ever participated or been connected with my foundation and its camps, to come out and help us celebrate the organization’s many contributions. The football clinic has affected the lives of so many youth and I look forward to the next phase in our organization.”
Parents/guardians can register on-site on the 18-20th. For more information, call: (313) 869-8081. Participants need to bring cleats.
