Kerry Washington is having a really good year. Fresh off the news of her top secret marriage to NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, and a successful second season of the primetime sudser “Scandal”, Washington made the cut as an Outstanding Lead Actress nominee. Unfortunately Kerry was the only series regular from the ABC hit series to to nominated, overlooking other award-worthy performances like Tony Goldwyn (Fitzgerald Grant), Jeff Perry (Cyrus Beene) Guillermo Diaz (Huck). Dan Bucatinsky, who plays Cyrus’ long-suffering hubby James, did land a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series. Kerry’s Emmy nod is still a major coup, as the last Black actress to be nominated for a Lead Actress Emmy was Cicely Tyson in 1995 for “Sweet Justice.”

Don Cheadle also held it down in the Outstanding Lead Actor/Comedy category, with a nom for his role as Marty Kaan in the deliciously wicked Showtime series “House of Lies.” The Oscar nominated actor has already won a Golden Globe and NAACP Image Award for his work on the show. The first and only Black actor to win in this category was Robert Guillaume for the ABC comedy series “Benson” in 1985.
Congrats to both Kerry and Don!
