Dozens of local businesses and organizations will join residents for the 4th Annual Highland Park Woodward Cruise, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. This family friendly event will take place at the Model-T Plaza located at 14100 Woodward Ave near Manchester in Highland Park.

The Model T Plaza will host a variety of events. The Meijer’s Kid Zone will be filled with family-friendly activities including a bounce house and a video game truck. A line up of comedians, DJ’s, musicians and poets will take the stage from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Project KidSight, presented by Detroit Area Lions Club, will provide free vision screenings for children 1 to 6 years old. Local musicians will perform a diverse musical line-up to entertain guests of all ages. In addition, food and beverage stations will be located through the plaza to keep guests fueled up to see the automobiles.

“Last year was a shining success for the Highland Park community,” said Errol Service, Chairperson of the Highland Park Woodward Cruise planning committee and Local McDonald’s Owner. “There were more than 1,800 participants in 2015, and we expect an even larger turnout for 2016. This family friendly event provides entertainment for all.”

Organizers expect more than 500 cars and motorcycles to participate in the Car and Bike Show. “Bagger,” “Soft Tail,” “Sport” and custom motorcycles are eligible for entry, as well as cars of all makes and models. On-site registration for the Car and Bike Show is available from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Model T Plaza.

Proceeds from Highland Park Woodward Cruise will support Highland Park’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative. MBK is President Obama’s national initiative to help boys and young men of color succeed from cradle to career. According to census data, 68% of Highland Park’s children live in poverty, which places them at a severe disadvantage of reaching their full potential. MBK will provide mentors and other supports to boys who are most at risk of dropping out of school, delinquency, alcohol and drug abuse, and other destructive behaviors.
