Most City of Detroit offices will close Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. However, there are a few exceptions:

Normal Police and Fire services will be provided.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) will collect refuse, recycling, bulk items and yard waste for Monday, Sept. 5, one day later. Monday’s collection will be picked up on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s collection will take place on Wednesday and so forth.

The Department of Transportation (D-DOT) will operate bus service on a Sunday schedule on Monday, Sept. 5.

In addition, a number of streets will be closed during the Labor Day weekend for the Detroit Jazz Festival and the annual Labor Day parade.

Monroe from Brush to St. Antoine will be closed completely now through Sept. 6.

Woodward from State to Jefferson will be closed completely from now through Sept. 6.

Congress from Griswold to Bates will be closed completely from now through Sept. 6.

Larned from Griswold to Randolph will be closed completely from now through Sept. 6.

Cadillac Square from Woodward to Bates will be closed completely from now through Sept. 6.

Michigan from Griswold to Woodward will be closed completely from now through Sept. 6.

Fort from Griswold to Woodward will be closed completely from now through Sept. 6.

Michigan Ave. from Trumbull to Washington will be closed completely Sept. 5.

Washington from Michigan to W. Jefferson will be closed completely Sept. 5.

  1. Jefferson from Washington to Hart Plaza will be closed completely Sept. 5.

 

Parking Facilities and Lots

The Municipal Parking Department will offer parking at the following City-owned garages during the Labor Day weekend.

Ford Underground Garage                 7 a.m. – 1 a.m. (Sept. 3 & 4)             $ 10

30 E. Jefferson                                      7 a.m. – 11 p.m. (Sept. 5)

 

Millennium Garage                           24 hours                                         $ 10

432 W. Congress

Premier Garage                               10 a.m. – 11 p.m. (Sept. 3 & 4)         $ 10

1206-08 Woodward Ave.                   10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Sept. 5)

Grand Circus Park Garage                 24 hours                                         $ 10

1601 Woodward Avenue

In addition, motorists will be able to purchase up to four hours of meter time on parking kiosks during the holiday weekend.
