Beyond-The-Lights-posterThe healing power of love is the focal point in the newly released Beyond The Lights.

A blend of Whitney Houston’s Bodyguard and Shakesphere’s Romeo and Juliet, Beyond The Lights tells the story of Noni Jean (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) whose is a blend of Rihanna meets Beyonce, a hot new award-winning artist who is primed for superstardom. But all is not what it seems and the pressures causes Noni to nearly fall apart – until she meets Kaz Nicol (Nate Parker), a promising young cop and aspiring politician who’s been assigned to her detail. Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of those around them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance.

Sultry, seductive and powerful emotions are invoked as the story of two lovers from different backgrounds struggle to find who they really are and who they are to each other. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood highlighted chemistry between the actors and key moments sets the backdrop for the movie’s pivotal point when romance turns to empathy and a cry for empowerment of the self-imprisoned heroine Noni as she pours her soul out while singing Nina Simone’s Blackbird.

If you’ve ever loved, fought for love, lost love, struggled with finding yourself and your path, then this movie will be a relatable journey to sit back and enjoy.
