Looking for Dave Chappelle to go off about the NAACP leader pretending to be Black? Unfortunately, that may not happen in the near future.

Yesterday the comedian came to Washington D.C. to give the commencement address at his high school, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. During the graduation ceremony he made a few remarks about Rachel Dolezal, the Spokane NAACP chapter president who is accused of falsifying her racial identity. He described the absurdity of a white woman pretending to be Black, and why there was no reason for her to do so.

After the ceremony though, Chappelle said he would refrain from joking about the situation. At least for now.

“I’m probably not going to do any jokes about her or any references to her for awhile,” Chappelle told the Washington Post. He described the situation as having nuances, and that a lot will come out if Dolezal publicly addresses the matter. The decision to censor himself was surprising, given his comedy routines about race.

Earlier today Dolezal resigned as president of the NAACP’s Spokane chapter. Other celebrities like Cher along with Raven Symone and Whoopi Goldberg spoke about Dolezal:
