ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks have teamed up with Bert’s Big Adventure to create another magical moment for a young basketball fan. Eleven-year-old Raynel Granell-Lopez of Powder Springs, Georgia, was surprised by the NBA basketball team in mid-February with the opportunity to join them in an upcoming regular season game as their guest of honor, introducing him as the 6th man of the team’s starting lineup.

Raynel, who suffered from a brain injury after being diagnosed with bacterial meningitis when he was 4 years old, was chosen to be one of 13 children who took part in this year’s annual trip to Walt Disney World® as a part of Bert’s Big Adventure. Bert’s Big Adventure is a nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. He was surprised with the opportunity as well as his own competitive sports wheelchair during the organization’s Big Send-Off Party hosted by The Bert Show which includes a live broadcast of the radio show, Disney characters and surprises for the children, with the ultimate goal of creating magical moments for these deserving families.

The VIP experience provided by the Atlanta Hawks will take place on Tuesday, April 5th. Raynel will kick-off the afternoon with a private basketball lesson from David Snowden with assistance from the Atlanta Hawks team and coaches, as well as Live Studio Analyst Mike Glenn. The experience will also include court side access to the pre-game shoot around, private locker room tour and a special introduction to the team as Raynel is announced as the 6th man for the game and guest of honor during the starting line-up. Raynel will enjoy the duration of the game in a private suite with his family to catch the Atlanta Hawks take on the Phoenix Suns at Philips Arena.
