Broadway hit Hamilton has been on the tip of everyone’s tongues for quite some time now, so news that the play has been nominated for a record-breaking 16 Tony Awards this year hardly comes as a surprise.
Led by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the star of the live production is up for a few Tonys himself, including “Best Leading Actor in a Musical,” “Best Original Score,” and “Best Book of a Musical.”
Other notable stars who snagged noms include Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams for their performances in Blackbird, Lupita Nyong’o for Eclipsed and Sara Bareilles for her music in Waitress. Jessica Lange and Michael Shannon were also honored for their performances in Long Day’s Journey into Night, along with Jonathan Groff in Hamilton, Danielle Brooks in The Color Purple and Jane Krakowski in She Loves Me.
Late Late Show extraordinaire James Corden is all set to host this year’s show at the Beacon Theatre in New York. Tune into CBS on June 12.
