There are so many amazing biopics in the works! Another celebrity to get their own is famed R&B and Gospel singer, Dionne Warwick.
The film, Dionne, is based off her 2010 autobiography “My Life as I See It.” Seeking Mario Van Peebles as the director, the biopic will be produced by AMBI Pictures and covers Warwick’s early career from 1962 through 1968.
Playing the lead role will be former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett —which Warwick was excited to talk about.
“She is perfect and she has exactly the right look,” Warwick told The Hollywood Reporter. “She will bring out what is needed for this part.” In addition to playing Warwick, Luckett will also perform her songs for the film’s soundtrack.
Also starring in the film is Olympia Dukakis who will play Marlene Dietrich, Warwick’s mentor at the start of her career; and Donald Glover as Warwick’s father, Mansel Warwick. Lady Gaga was rumored to play Cilla Black, a British singer who became Warwick’s nemesis for covering her music. But Gaga’s reps confirmed she was not involved with the project.
“To God be the glory!” Lukett said on Instagram, responding to the news. “Overjoyed & honored! Thank you #DionneWarwick”
Luckett has been consistently acting for six years, starring in Treme, Ballers, and Single Ladies.
Filming for Dionne is set to begin later this year.
