Destiny’s Child alum LeToya Luckett will portray one of music’s greatest icons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the R&B singer will play Dionne Warwick in the upcoming biopic, Dionne. “She is perfect and she has exactly the right look,” Warwick said of Luckett’s casting. “She will bring out what is needed for this part.” In addition to playing Warwick, Luckett will also perform her songs for the film’s soundtrack.
Olympia Dukakis and Danny Glover were also announced as cast members. Dionne’s team also confirmed that Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City) is being considered to direct the film. No word on a release date just yet, but reports claimed that Lady Gaga, who was a top pick to play Dionne’s longtime adversary Cilla Black, will no longer be a part of the production.
Aside from Cilla, Warwick has hinted that other famous faces, including legendary producer Burt Bacharach and The Beatles could have a presence in the film. Dionne is set to begin production late this year.
