Erykah Badu has been giving us so much life lately.
From singing in high school cafeterias to remixing PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s contemporary cut “Come and See Me,” Erykah has her hand in a little bit of everything.
Now, the neo-soul singer is gracing us yet again with a new feature on Robert Glasper’s remake of the Miles Davis‘ classic “Maiysha.”
“Maiysha” was originally featured on Miles Davis’ 1974 compilation album Get Up with It. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Robert Glasper gushed about remaking Miles’ classic:
“I think Miles would’ve loved Erykah,” Robert told the publication. “We sat down for a few days before she came up with the idea of a bossa nova, and Vincent [Wilburn Jr., Davis’ nephew and Eighties-era drummer] recommended using ‘Maiysha,’ which comes from the mid-Seventies and has this beautiful trumpet solo by Miles.”
“Maiysha (So Long)” will appear on the Miles Davis tribute album Everything’s Beautiful, which boasts appearances from Stevie Wonder, Bilal, Phonte, and Hiatus Kaiyote. Everything’s Beautiful will hit store shelves a day after what would’ve been Miles’ 90th birthday on May 27.
“Maiysha (So Long)” is also featured in the recently released biopic Miles Ahead, starring Don Cheadle.
