The UAW-GM Spirit of Detroit Hydrofest returns this summer from August 27-28. Hydrofest is the longest running unlimited hydroplane race on the H1 Unlimited circuit.

imageThe event will celebrate 100 years of powerboat racing on the Detroit River. Since 1916, powerboats have been a part of Detroit’s legacy, “We’re excited to mark this milestone and create an unforgettable experience for the crowds,” said Mark Weber, president of Detroit Riverfront Events, Inc.

Detroit Riverfront Events, Inc. is proud to extend its commitment to powerboat racing on the river as the host and planing organization for the event. “This is a momentous occasion for the city and our racing fans, marking the return of the APBA Gold Cup, the oldest active trophy in motor sports, on the 100th anniversary of the premier hydroplane race in the country,” said Weber.

This year’s celebration will include the addition of “FREE Friday” which means free admission to the grandstand and cold pit during practice runs.

Thanks to UAW-GM all general admission parks will be free on Saturday and Sunday.

Hydrofest grandstand seating tickets are on sale now, starting at $50. Purchases can be made over that phone, 313-329-8047, or online at http://www.detroitboatraces.com
