Councilmember Mary Sheffield will be joined by Mayor Mike Duggan, Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence, Police Chief James Craig and Sheriff Benny Napoleon to celebrate the kick-off of the 2016 “Occupy The Corner- Detroit” initiative today, 6 pm at Pingree Park. Council Member Sheffield, staff, community leaders, and volunteers will visit the neighborhoods of District 5 providing residents with resources such as job training, utility assistance, felony expungement, healthcare and other vital services in an effort to address the root causes of violence in Detroit. The initiative is scheduled to continue every other Friday throughout the summer months and today’s event will offer free food and refreshments as well as haircuts for its participants.
