A tragic school bus accident in Chattanooga, Tennessee, killed at least five elementary school students on Monday. According to reports, the bus – which had 35 students on board – flipped over and hit a tree. Emergency officials were notified of the crash around 3:30 p.m. Twenty-three children on the bus were taken to Erlanger Hospital for injuries. Woodmore Elementary School bus driver Johnthony Walker, 24, has been apprehended and charged in the incident for reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and vehicular homicide. Walker is being held on $20,000 bail. A court date is slated for November 29. Law enforcement officials have obtained a warrant for the black box on the bus and video footage from the cameras on the bus to further their investigation. “Taking care of the children that are injured is our No. 1 priority. Taking care of the families who are looking for, caring for and grieving for children is our second priority,” said Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher. “Our thoughts, our prayers and all of our efforts are with the families of these children and others impacted by this tragedy.” Read more.
White Supremacists Celebrate Trump Win
Members of the alt-right group—a collective of White nationalists — gathered in Washington on Saturday to celebrate President-elect Donald Trump’s win. Video footage that captured comments made by Richard Spencer, president of the alt-right National Policy Institute, circulated around the web on Sunday. “Hail Trump! Hail our people! Hail victory!” said Spencer. “America was, until this last generation, a white country, designed for ourselves and our posterity. It is our creation and our inheritance, and it belongs to us.” He also made outlandish remarks about Hillary Clinton, Blacks, and Latinos. Trump’s camp issued a statement on Monday claiming that he has condemned racism. “President-elect Trump has continued to denounce racism of any kind and he was elected because he will be a leader for every American,” said Trump spokesman Bryan Lanza. “To think otherwise is a complete misrepresentation of the movement that united Americans from all backgrounds.” Read more.
