Proceeds to expand the organization’s early childhood work beyond pre-K through third grade.

United Way for Southeastern Michigan to host its first fundraising gala of this magnitude — the 101st Anniversary Gala, Celebrating the Power of One.

Members of the United Way Board including Board Chair Mark Petroff and his event co-chairs including Eileen Petroff, Dave and Yvette Bing, and Bill and Lisa Ford will welcome more than 500 guests to the event. The organization’s newly appointed United Way President and CEO Dr. Darienne Driver, and United Way Worldwide President Mary Sellers will also be present.

United Way’s 101st gala aims to elevate the collective power of the individual, uniting in a common cause to impact underserved communities in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. Guests will enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences including original artwork, a live auction, United Way-inspired experiential activities including a Cost of Living digital simulation and more, presented against the backdrop of an airport hangar. British singer-songwriter and multi-Grammy winner Corinne Bailey Rae will also perform her soulful R&B sounds.

Proceeds from the $250 ticketed event will benefit United Way’s new third grade reading initiative to address an alarming statistic: Fewer than half of third-graders are proficient in English, according to The Michigan Department of Education. The initiative will expand key resources for pre-K students (Bib to Backpack), with added tools for children in kindergarten through third grade including free access to ABCMouse.com, STEM and art camps, and more.

United Way’s 101 Gala is possible with corporate sponsorships including the organization’s premier sponsors of FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Lear, and Magna.
